Skincare Tips
As skin matures, it starts to show signs of age. The body produces 2% less elastin and collagen (the proteins that plump and firm skin) every year from the age of 21, causing skin to appear thin and loose, and meaning it forms lines and wrinkles more easily. In addition to this, your skin stops producing the same level of moisture, so you’ll find it gets drier as you get older. You’ll notice your skin’s pigment cells will also start to show in areas where you’ve accumulated sun damage, forming age spots.
CLEANSE
Start the day with a gentle cleanser which will refresh the skin without stripping moisture levels. Look for cream or balm formulas that are suitable for dry or sensitive skin and contain nourishing ingredients like squalane, hyaluronic acid, apricot oil, aubergine extracts, calendula extracts or olive fruit oils.
TONER
A hydrating toner is as much a staple in your morning routine as it is in your evening routine. This initial hydrating step is your first opportunity to layer on some moisturising ingredients, and means that your moisturiser’s hydrating benefits will be boosted.
EYE CREAM
The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and most delicate skin on your face, so it’s the first place where you’ll see lines and wrinkles forming. To address (and prevent) loose skin issues, try an eye-specific product – depending on your preference, choose between cream, serum, and gel formulas.
VITAMIN C SERUM
It takes time to improve the appearance of signs of aging, such as loose skin, pigmentation, and wrinkles, but with consistent daily application the results will be well worth the wait. Vitamin C is one of the best ingredients you can use, thanks to its ability to kickstart collagen production in order to boost and repair skin, while protecting it from further damage.
MOISTURISER
Seal the hydration with a cream textured moisturiser, which will deliver further hydrating benefits to the skin and absorb quickly, so you’re not left with residue or a greasy finish.
SPF
UV rays are the biggest culprits in causing skin to age. The solution? It’s simple, block the rays and you block the wrinkles and age spots. In fact, SPF is just about the only product that can actually prevent these signs of aging.
